What's it like to work as a writer for a women's interest blog?

I'm just trying to weigh the pros/cons of a PR role vs. a writing job at a women's site. I'd love to know what it's like to work at a women's internet publication, like Elite Daily or something of that nature! I love writing about women's topics.

In my experience, it's been fun, fast-paced, and incredibly rewarding. Writing requires you to be sharp and tuned-in, and there's nothing quite like the creative energy in a newsroom!

I actually worked at Elite Daily for 9 months as their health editor, and before that I was doing health/entertainment stuff at The Huffington Post for nearly four years. I love to write, so it's always been a ton of fun for me—but be warned that the environment is super fast-paced, and you have to be super creative and constantly checking the news. I don't have experience in PR, but whether you're a writer or you're in PR it's so, so important to network and get to know as many people as possible. That's how you keep moving up the ladder. Hope that helps!

Wow thanks so much for the reply. I love Elite Daily and Huffington Post too!

I'm curious, did you get to pick what you covered when you first started out or did your editor put you on a vertical? And lastly, how did you find your first writing gig? Are there any key places I should monitor for openings? Any tricks of the trade are so helpful. You're great - thank you!
